My Fourth Book Review

Hi everyone! It’s been months since I reviewed a book because I’ve been real busy with school requirements and attendingsome school activities! 😭

(DISCLAIMER: The book was sent to me by the author in exchange for an honest review.)

First off, here’s the cover of the book made by Colleen Cole (@cocosquirl on IG) 😍

The book came with a postcard from the author’s e-zine! 😊

The Beautiful Worst (in which the author is also the curator) that features art, photos, writings, interviews, recipes and other internet sundries. You can visit it at

Here’s the Synopsis:

About the Book

Two friends find a portal to another dimension and use this β€œin-between place” to avoid the stress of their everyday lives. What they don’t realize is that every time they enter, they alter reality.

Pseudo-punk Magnolia and underachieving gamer-geek Rom are two unlikely friends who only hang out during their walks home together after school. When they find the a portal that leads to different worlds, they use the β€œin-between place” as an escape from their lives in high school, then later, after college.

Their visits through the portal bring them teetering along a tight-rope of fantasy and reality, where they don’t always believe what is in front of them, not even their feelings for each other.

The book is about changesβ€”the ones that you can control, and the ones that you can’t. It’s about commitment and friendship. It’s about the stages in between where you have nothing but the unknown ahead of you.

Inspired by the work of Haruki Murakami and films like Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind, Somewhere In Between is metaphysical coming-of-age story about defining love and finding yourself.

My Review!

5/5 Stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

β€’ Writing Style: The book is well written! Though some may be confused on some words (maybe because the book uses a lot of kinda hard-to-understand words) but for me, I’m more impressed on how the book presented a clear image on each scenes! The reader can really imagine what’s happening and can also feel what the “atmosphere” in the places they’ve been up to.

β€’ Plot: The book for me, does not have a clichΓ© story. The plot is well arranged. I like how the flashbacks are presented without having it too obvious. Readers should really be aware that the left and right allignment of the words signifies two different events.

β€’ The Characters: There are two main characters presented. The name of the girl is Magnolia and the boy is named Rom. At first, I don’t know what to really expect with them but I finished the book loving them both anyway.

β€’ Overall: I love the illustrations inside and the story itself! It’s a whole new story for me, I like their adventures to the “in-between”. I just hate how it ended that left me having a book hangover! I demand a BOOK TWO, author! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜

REVIEW: All The Bright Places by Jennifer Niven

Book Title: All The Bright Places

Number of Pages: 378

Publishing Date: January 2016

My Third Book Review

It’s been ages ago since I posted a book review! 😁 Schooling is really busy and I always catch up doing some reading in my free time (in which most of the time, I don’t have!) or I always secretly read and sometimes skip a school work if I think it’s difficult to do! πŸ˜‚

So here’s my THIRD BOOK REVIEW! I read this book because there’s this subject I have in school that requires us to read a novel and make a book report of it! It’s one of the requirements for Prelim and that means I really need to do it despite the busy school assignments! πŸ™€

My bookstagram post for this book 😁

Here’s the SYNOPSIS:

About the book

Theodore Finch is fascinated by death. Every day he thinks of ways he might die, but every day he also searches forβ€”and manages to findβ€”something to keep him here, and alive, and awake.

Violet Markey lives for the future, counting the days until graduation, when she can escape her small Indiana town and her aching grief in the wake of her sister’s death.

When Finch and Violet meet on the ledge of the bell tower at schoolβ€”six stories above the groundβ€”it’s unclear who saves whom. And when the unlikely pair teams up on a class project to discover the “natural wonders” of their state, they go, as Finch says, where the road takes them: the grand, the small, the bizarre, the beautiful, the ugly, the surprisingβ€”just like life.

Soon it’s only with Violet that Finch can be himselfβ€”a bold, funny, live-out-loud guy, who’s not such a freak after all. And it’s only with Finch that Violet forgets to count away the days and starts living them. But as Violet’s world grows, Finch’s begins to shrink.

This is a heart-wrenching, unflinching story of love shared, life lived, and two teens who find one another while standing on the edge.

My Rating!

3/5 Stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️

I hate the fact that Finch has to die in the end! 😭😭😭 I thought he was already happy with Violet but I never knew he still pursud what’s on his mind which is to DIE! 😟😟😟 I love the story overall! I honestly got bored in the first few chapters because it’s soo slow-paced. I’ve always liked stories that’s fast so that my anticipation will be fulfilled! *evil laugh* I hate also, how their parents never cared about them! And lastly, at some point, I didn’t understood the point-of-views of either of Finch and Violet like maybe I just didn’t understand why they think that way! Or maybe I was thinking maybe there’s a better way to express it? (Yeah?) I love Finch for being sooo dreamy! He’s beautiful character and how he saved Violet from humiliation! 😁 I just hate his mental sickness, his perfect for me already! *Why oh why?* Violet has the attitude that’s so unexpected! I never knew she was a cheerleader before the accident that means she’s totally confident and how she shifted to that shy-type girl after her sister’s death. I just do hope Blue Hole doesn’t exist in this world because I might cry a sea thinking Finch died there! 😭😭😭 Thank you Miss Jennifer for giving us an eye-opener book! πŸ’•

UNWRAPPED: Bookish Wonderland Surprise! βœ¨

Once upon a time, the gods of Olympus sent the fairy godmothers who’ll grant a little round-eyed girl with all the bookish wishes in her life. She told them to give her everything that Wonderland can give, and they all granted her wish! πŸ’•

Hey guys! So this is my first post about unwrapping a surprise! This is not a about a bookbox or a book sent from generous publishers but, about the prizes I won from a recent giveaway on Instagram! πŸ™€ I’m really thankful to the #BookishGirlfriends for picking me! πŸ’•

The Packaging

First off, here’s the wrapping of the surprise package! ✨

is one of the leading couriers here in the Philippines that offers fast and reliable service but in this package, its just the provincial forwarder since my area is far off from the city 😁

It has a BIG packaging! I think this is a LARGE pouch used for this package! It is made of PLASTIC and it doesn’t look BATTERED when it arrived home ! I wouldn’t expect there’ll be damages inside! πŸ˜‚

The Contents

Anyways, here’s the contents of the package inside! Any guesses on what’s inside the surprise package?

! This will make you curiouser and curiouser! πŸ˜‰

β€’ First, this book is a US bookstore-exclusive book, clothbound, a deep purple cover and a classic!

β€’ Second, this is a little book with the same title as the first one but in different cover and a UK publisher; sky blue-colored book with silver designs in the cover.

β€’ A mini figurine of a classic character! πŸ™€

What could it be? You can COMMENT below on your first guesses on it! πŸ˜‰

June is BIRTH month: Bookhaul and Wrap-Up

PicMonkey Collage.pngHi everyone! Sorry for being inactive in this blog because I think I’m more active in Instagram and at school! 😁

June is my birth month because I was born on the last day of this month! πŸ’• So I’m gonna share this month’s bookhaul and wrap-up (or the books I’ve read!) ✨

Ay Did Bookhaul! πŸ“š

These are the books I’ve bought for this month! ✨ Sooo happy because I earned a little from my allowance to buy all these babies! It’s really a joy to me since it’s my birth month and I was able to buy something for myself! ❀

  • A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas

The first FANTASY book I’ve owned but still, I haven’t read it because I feel like I need to prepare myself for the intense adventures and scenes (and also, maybe another whirlwind of emotions and definitely, another book hangover! 😁)

It’s a SIGNED COPY and I got it from an online bookstore! Happiness! ✨ The author, Sarah J. Maas had a booksigning event last March 13, 2016 and I lived far from the venues of such events (I basically live in the Mindanao Area, south of the Philippines!) so, it’s really a good news knowing that there are signed copies of her books available! πŸ˜€

  • All The Bright Places by Jennifer Niven PLUS! A Sneak Peek of Holding Up The Universe πŸ’§πŸ’§πŸ’§

Jennifer Niven visited the Philippines this June and I was not able to go to the Booksigning Event because I lived far from the venues but fortunately, an online bookstore offered signed copies of her book, All The Bright Places plus a sneak peek of her next book, Holding Up The Universe so I was able to get my own copies! Minus the dedication part 😁

  • Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through The Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll (Vintage Classics Edition)

I remembered how I was looking for a copy of this book everywhere in the bookstores in our place to the point that I inquired a lot of online sellers that caters US/UK Based Booksellers! (Ooops!) Because I really really want to have a copy and read! 😭😭😭 I’m really curious on what the story is all about and I’m really curious if the book version is the same with the movie! πŸ˜‚

FINALLY! I got a copy! 😍😍😍 It’s a Vintage Classics edition and I love all the illustrations inside! πŸ’• I never really expected that it will have illustrations inside since the book is sealed and most of the books nowadays are in complete text ONLY. πŸ™€ I read a few pages and scanned some pictures because it’s too beautiful! πŸ™Š

What Ay Read πŸ“š

First off, is All The Bright Places by Jennifer Niven

We’ll be having book critique/report for our class and it’s one of the requirements of one of my subjects 😁 I really need to do all the reading not for a review but for a book report! πŸ˜€Β I chooseΒ All The Bright PlacesΒ and I’ll have a review of it here in the blog after I’m done reading and encoding my book report! πŸ™‚

Next is, THE SIREN by Kiera Cass πŸ πŸŸπŸ‘πŸ¬πŸ³πŸ‹

I’m torn between this book and All The Bright Places because I need to pick a GOOD BOOK for the book report πŸ™€ So I decided to read a few pages of this book so that I can have a background and synopsis but, since I read MOSTLY negative reviews so I chose All The Bright Places instead. I’ll read this book after our Prelim Exams (so, that’s the end of July!) and hopefully I can also review this book SOON here in the blog.

So that’s all for this month! ^_^ Hope you’ll still be with me for the next month! πŸ™‚

REVIEW: P.S. I Still Love You by Jenny Han

BookΒ Details

Book Title: P.S. I Still Love You (Book 2 of To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before)Β
Author: Jenny Han

Number of Pages: 337

Publishing Date: May 26th 2015Β

Publisher: Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers

My Second Book Review

Caption: Bookstagram post ❀️

My second book review will be about the second book I’ve read last year in which the story is still really fresh inside my mind because the story did really gave me the “grrrr” feels and quite disappointment that’s why I can still remember every part of it until now. P.S. I Still Love You is the sequelΒ of To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before which I reviewed yesterday (check out my first post of this blog).

This book is really memorable to me because tis’ the first time I used my hard-earned money to buy this copy! My mom was not there when I visited a local bookstore and when I saw this in the shelves well, definitely I immediately purchased it! I went home happily and so excited to read it right away! I bought it, two weeks after we bought the first book and I just realized this book was released days ago that time. I finished this book in just 3 days also, just like it’s first book πŸ™‚ With this book, my bookish obsession and bibliophilic profession started. πŸ˜„

Caption: Reading in bed. Made a bookmark inspired from the book.

Here’s the Synopsis:

LARA JEAN DIDN’T EXPECT TO REALLY FALL FOR PETER. They were just pretending. Until they weren’t. And now Lara Jean has to learn what it’s like to be in a real relationship and not just a make-believe one.

Caption: Tells what the story will be. πŸ˜‰

My Rating:

3/5 Stars 🌟🌟🌟

I hate myself for having such high expectations but for a sequel of the book I’ve had a crush on (Team Peter K, beybe!) and had totally felt something cheesy in a long time well, I think I’m reasonable for being disappointed though (to the highest level!) and quite confused on why did the story ended so fast and left me with a lot of questions in my mind especially to Kitty and of course, Lara Jean’s and Peter’s plans! I DEMAND A BOOK THREE OF THIS LIKE ASAP, LIKE RIGHT NOW! Aarrghh! But sad to say, Miss Jenny Han announced that there will be no book three! SAD. But anyways, despite all, I really enjoyed reading it and got super excited on what will happen next- Peter and Lara Jean’s REALationship and that sudden comeback of another boy from her past and if Lara Jean will have fallen again to that guy! Well, honestly, I got bored in some parts. Overall, NOT BAD for a sequel and definitely loved it till the end. I just still hoped for a book three. LOL πŸ˜πŸ˜‚πŸ˜Š

REVIEW: To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han

Book Details

Book Title: ToΒ All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han

Publishing Date:Β April 15, 2014

Publisher: Simon & Schuster Books for Young ReadersΒ

Number of Pages: 368

Well, it’s my first time to do a book review on my WordPress account (which was made for a school project) *yehey* and I didn’t knew this would be all about my bookish pastime and love of reading ❀️

I’ve started reading this book last 2015 (sometime in my summer break from school) and finished it off in 3 days! Well, weird enough it’s just today that I’ll be having it on a book review! *pats myself*

Caption: As I started off my first-ever book review!Β

πŸ“Œ Why I decided to read this book?

FLASHBACK: It was when me and my mom went to a local bookstore as part of our regular hangout on weekdays in city malls when I saw this book. Besides the beautiful cover, I got intrigued with the book title since it somehow relates to me and my “heartbreak” that time (I met few boys in my life and thought they’re the reason of a sudden breakup, GOSH!) Well, anyways, judging from it’s cover and the title somehow comprises the 70% of why I decided to read it. πŸ˜‚

Caption: My bookstagram post of this book ❀️

Before my rating for this book, here’s the synopsis:

About the Book

LARA JEAN KEEPS HER LOVE LETTERS IN A HATBOX HER MOTHER GAVE HER. They aren’t love letters that anyone else wrote for her; there are ones she’s written. One for every boy she’s ever loved- five in all. When she writes, she can pour out her heart and soul and say all the things she would never say in real life, because her letters are for her eyes only. Until the day her secret letters are mailed, and suddenly Lara Jean’s life goes from imaginary to out of control.

Caption: Synopsis found at the back of the book!

Here’s my rating:

4.5/5 stars!Β β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…

I rated it 4.5/5 stars because I really enjoyed reading it (not bad for my first book!) It’s such a light read and my own “type” of romance although, honestly, I expected something more to happen. The story started off slow (which I think is common with contemporary romance stories) until, such time her letters were sent to the boys she loved by someone anonymous. I didn’t really expected that someone who’s close to her which is her youngest sister would do that to her and that’s what made the story interesting to me as I wanted to turn pages quickly so that I will know what happened actually! What I hated about this book is the character’s immaturity (Lara Jean’s, perhaps!) and how she handled her feelings and emotions to every problem she faces but I think I’m considerate enough to understand her since she’s still a teenage girl being too emotional and sensitive. The story is really good to read! I love how humor is inserted and how the story flow goes. There are some things inside the story are too mainstream or which do happen in reality that makes it more easier to relate and feel the characters but I guess, some situations can be handled better the other way. I was happy when the author announced that there will be a Book 2 because as I end the story, I really felt that’s there’s still more to be revealed or any plot twist will be added and guess I was right! Overall, kudos to Miss Jenny Han for giving such a light and cool read perfect for my summer break!
